Team Magma Town Trip

Lisa Chubb —

Team Magma went on an exploration of parts of our city and discovered how these places are connected to our past and why they are significant. The students spent time learning about the history of the Otakaro/Avon river and the revamped Victoria Square with it’s gardens, fountain, statue, sculptures and mosaics, before walking through Cathedral Square and down to the Botanical Gardens.

At the gardens, and in the rain, the children searched for patterns and structures in nature and used all their senses to develop their appreciation of the wonder and beauty in nature.

The lines of inquiry we were exploring for our current inquiry included:

  • People are connected to places for different reasons. (Connection)

  • Places are significant for different reasons. (Perspective)

For our next inquiry we were looking at how:

  • Patterns occur in the world around us. (Form)
