Mt Pleasant Magic
It's hard to believe we are at the end of Term 3 already! Read on to see what we have to look forward to, and the cool things we have to share from the term that was Term 3 2022!
Can you Help?
OUR TREES NEED A HAIRCUT
We are wondering if our community knows of any arborists that might be willing to help the school trees get a little haircut. We have a couple of trees that really need to be cut back, especially the large blue gum in the junior playground. If you know of anyone that might give us a reasonable price, please let us know. We would love the trees to have their haircuts before too many more of our wild nor'westers turn up.
POOL PARTY TIME!
We are looking forward to getting the swimming pool open, and hoping for a long hot summer of swimming! In order to do this, we need some help with a working bee around the pool. This will include some water blasting, painting and general tidy up. This will be on Saturday 29 October, from 10:00am - 3:00pm and ideally we would love to have at least 12 people supporting with this. We will provide food for over lunch.
First Meeting with our new Board
We held our first Board meeting last night with our new board members. We welcomed Lisa Chubb as our new teacher rep board member. James Murphy has been re-elected as our Board Chair. Ben Gorst has been co-opted onto the board to utilise his ‘property’ skills and support the school in this area.
The board remains committed to it’s strong governance of the school.
Mt Pleasant Art Exhibition
THANK YOU to all our amazing volunteers for your help - we could not have pulled this off without you!! As our largest fundraiser of the year, the Mt Pleasant Art Exhibition relies on volunteers; whether you gifted items for the auctions, helped out over the weekend, inspired classes to create masterpieces or you were part of the key organising committee. Every little bit added up to produce another successful Art Exhibition. We are lucky to have such a generous community. Thank you!
We don't have final figures yet, but Cathy (in the office) and Jess (PTA treasurer) have been busy reconciling payments and counting all the cash and, at the moment, it is looking to be in the vicinity of $17,000 raised to go towards technology for our school!!
A special shout out to Room 6, whose beautiful birds were widely admired at the Art Exhibition - thank you for letting us enjoy your fabulous flock in the School Office for the past 10 days!
Turf Progress
As most of you will know, a good chunk of the last few year's fundraising has gone towards our new turf. Have you seen how amazing it is looking? This is now super close to completion - we can't wait to have this up and running in Term 4.
This project has been driven by a very small, very modest but extremely dynamic group of parents. Thank you! You know who you are!! Again! What an amazing community we live in.
2023 Class Placements
The beginning of next term sees the teachers placing students into their 2023 classes.
The class placement procedure is a very complex process which includes the following considerations;
Social needs (including friendships and challenging relationships)
Academic needs
Age of the student
Student’s strengths
Social/Gender composition of the class
It is important to note that we consult the students regarding friendships they would like to maintain as they move to their new class. Where endeavour to meet at least one of their requests.
If you have any relevant information that you think might support this process can you please email Donna directly d.ellery@mtpleasant.school.nz before Wednesday 30 October
While all information will be carefully considered, and we value your input into this decision for your child, it is important to note that the final decision on placement rests with the professional judgement of staff. Please do not request a specific teacher. This is not a task we take lightly, and much discussion and re-thinking go on before the classes are eventually published.
If your child is moving from Mt Pleasant School next year, please use this form to let us know (Year 8 students do not need to do this). This will ensure we can accurately staff the school for 2023.
If you have or know of any new entrants or other children who will be attending Te Kura O Paeraki | Mt Pleasant School in 2023 or beyond, please let us know.
Safe in the Sun! ☀ 🌞
It’s that time of the year when we need to start remembering to cover up from the sun. Children are REQUIRED to wear their sunhats in Term 4 and Term 1, so have a hunt over the holidays if you haven't already, & dust off those hats ready for a fabulous summer! If you can't find them - uniform is available to purchase from Mainland Uniforms in Peterborough Street. We do not sell second hand hats for hygiene reasons.
Have a wonderful break over the next 2 weeks ready for Term 4!!
