A High School Day for Team Magma

Maria Arneil —

On Monday the 20th November Team Magma children attended Linwood High School as part of their ‘tuning in’ for their new inquiry under the theme of How We Express Ourselves.

Teachers and year 7/8 students from The Arts Department at Linwood conducted workshops based around our central idea ‘Culture, identity and emotions are communicated through the arts’.

Many of the games included Māori language and Samoan Language.

“The Music man was amazing because he really mixed the learning with fun”

~ Max, room 6.

“Playing the drum game was fun because you learnt a bit about rhythm”

~ Katie, room 6.

“The dressing up was loads of fun because we got to be really creative. Your costume did not have to be exact”

~ Emilia, room 6.

“I liked doing the haka with the Māori students. They showed us the actions and then we did it with them”

~ Molly, room 4.

“Well done to all of the children in Team Magma. You demonstrated enthusiasm, cooperation and creativity. The teachers and students at Linwood High School were very impressed”

~ Mrs Arneil, Mrs Campion and Mrs Graham.
