Holly & Juliet —

Peep, the whistle blew and I was off. There were lots of pushing and a couple of people crashed but I dodged them and started pedalling hard out. I was in the middle of the pack, so I had to over take some people while I was on the track. Someone crashed in front of me, and I was centimetres away from going down with them.

I got to the end of the first track and changed gear, there was a steep hill coming up. Before I knew it I was hearing the cheering, it was loud compared to the forest I rounded the corner and stopped centimetres away from Holly’s back tyre.

In the distance, coming round the bend, I saw a flash of yellow and a glint of Juliet’s helmet. Dad stopped her centimetres away from me, whipping off the timer and slapping it on to my left leg. I pushed off and started pedaling, around the corner, down the mini hill and around the bend. Not long after I’d started, I passed a few kids and then it felt like it was only me on the track.

I then started along the forest track. Soon I passed the bend and it was just a short sprint to the MTP tent where Juliet was waiting on her bike.

My second lap whizzed by quickly and now I am about to go of on my third.

Matt had told me this would probably be my last lap, I was waiting for Holly to come back, she whizzed round the corner and in record breaking speed he whipped the timing chip off Holly’s leg onto mine I was off on my third and final lap. Halfway round I got stuck behind a marshall, she was a grumpy lady and she didn’t let me pass, I passed her anyway and was off on my way. The head wind was getting stronger so it slowed me down, but I got back in time for Holly to get another lap.

Juliet passed the corner for the third time and I jumped up from my seat and clipped on my helmet. This would be my third and final lap. I felt the hard slap of the chip clipping to my leg, and then I was off. I rounded the bend to find a group of boys cycling together. I passed them and once again it was just me on the track. The small hill was coming up so I changed to a lower gear and pedaled harder. As I knew this was my last lap I decided to sprint to the end. I came out of the trees and up the hill and then there was just the small sandy track to go. I sprinted that and found myself coming around the corner for the final time. I was stopped by a lady and my timer came off for the last time.

We got seventh overall and were happy with the result.
