Team Magma Inquiry

Lyndsey Jones —

Our third inquiry was ‘People use the structural principles that occur in nature when building.’

The lines of inquiry we explored included:

  • Patterns occur in the world around us. (Form)
  • Animals and humans use the same structural principles when building. (Function)
  • There are basic structural principles that make buildings stronger. (Function)

To complete our inquiry each child was required to use ‘creative junk’ to create a free-standing structure that was inspired by nature. The children had to identify the strong shapes that form their structure and how nature had inspired their design.

Check out all the different structures they created at the end of term 2.
