School Donation Rebates

Ground Control —

Did you know, under tax law, Inland Revenue Department (IRD) can reimburse 33 percent of the donations schools ask parents for at the start of the year?

We have had a number of parents asking about tax rebates for school donations, so we found some information for you.
Here is the lowdown from the IRD:

Which School Payments Can You Claim Tax Credits on?

You can claim a donation tax credit on:
  • school fees or
  • state run kindergartens
As long as they go to the general fund and you have a receipt with the word 'donation' written on it.
You can only claim donation tax credits within a period of four years, following the year in which the gift was made.
You can't claim a donation tax credit on:
  • attendance due fees
  • tuition fees, ie where a separate fee is charged for any course of tuition
  • university, polytech or other tertiary education fees
  • private kindergarten or other early childcare fees.

Follow this link for rebate forms & more information on the IRD website.

We have had a several parents also ask whether this rebate can also be donated to help raise money for our school hall - absolutely!  You simply need to provide the IRD with whatever bank account you would like this to go to.  If you would like to donate this rebate to school, our bank account details are as follows:

Mt Pleasant School
12-3149-0240268-00

If you need a copy of your donation receipts, please email rachael@mtpleasant.school.nz & we will get this to you.
