RobotMagic

Kellen Gillstrom —

For the final term of the year, we've been exploring the PYP Theme of 'how we express ourselves' through the Central Idea that "People’s perspective of their world is connected to their experiences and relationships with their natural environment and their place in time."

For the final term of the year, we've been exploring the PYP Theme of 'how we express ourselves' through the Central Idea that "People’s perspective of their world is connected to their experiences and relationships with their natural environment and their place in time." We read a variety of myths and legends from different cultures, seeking to understand the histories and natural phenomenon being explained within the stories. Taking a particular interest in the story of Maui slowing the Sun, we decided to interpret the story in our own way, through dance. Once we decided on the form our dance would take, we used RobotMagic to bring our year-end dance into the virtual world, in an effort to share this with all of you. We hope it is a virtual keepsake for you all to remember the massive amount of work that the Room 11 students put into their performance, and the beautiful product that was presented.

RobotMagic is a website build by Hanno Sander, one of our parents, that lets kids learn by doing. On the site, kids play with fun robot challenges to learn critical thinking in science, technology, engineering and math. The site includes dozens of worlds where kids interact with robots, gears, 3D printer and dancers.

We programmed the dancers to dance by customizing dance poses and costumes. Our advanced projects use multiple dancers dancing together!
