2017 has been another busy, exciting and successful year of learning Spanish at Naenae College. In this article, let us look back and reflect on the year.
During the year Spanish teacher, Ms Henderson won a scholarship to study at the prestigious Salamanca University during the Spanish summer semester. It was fantastic to return to New Zealand with new teaching inspiration and greater cultural knowledge.
Thanks to the trip to Spain, Ms Henderson returned with a book full of recipes for the students to taste and try their hand at cooking. Indeed, food was recurring a theme this year. Both the senior and junior Spanish students created Spanish food festivals where they prepared, cooked and ate a variety of Spanish foods such as tortilla española, chocolate con churros, croquetas, arroz con leche and other Spanish traditional foods.
This sharing of food and cultural knowledge has been a fantastic experience for us in the Spanish Department and has allowed us not only speak another language, but to understand the culture of Spain.
