The ‘Just Shift It’ programme through Ignite Sport/Shift has been running weekly with class 10W since the end of term 2.
The focus is on improving young women’s wellbeing, and being physically active. The young women of 10W have had a role in co-designing the content of the programme with Miss Gueorgieff and Emma Bakker (Shift Coordinator). We did boxing through the Naenae Boxing Academy, gym sessions at Jetts Lower Hutt, played Spikeball, Ultimate Frisbee and other new active games. The girls also learnt about the wellbeing theory, identity, values, relationships and how to build self esteem. We completed the programme with the physical and mental challenge of Adrenaline Forest high ropes course, where the girls got to face fear and build confidence. Many of the girls have said that the main thing they took away is greater connection and friendship with one another – certainly a vital aspect in building a great sense of wellbeing, whanaungatanga!
