Principal's message, 25 November 2022
Kia ora koutou,
Thank you for your support and understanding as our staff take the necessary time to prepare for the upcoming changes to NCEA. Today staff have been working on site to discuss the 'things on top' regarding the changes and on Monday they will meet with teachers from around the region to discuss concerns and seek clarity on the new standards that will be implemented from 2024. As we make changes moving forward we will continue to ensure that our school has a modern, relevant curriculum that meets the needs of our diverse learners.
This week we sent four volleyball teams, around 40 students, away to participate in the South Island Secondary Schools championships and we were absolutely delighted with the results. We had stunning results at the tournament with our Junior A Girls winning GOLD, and our Junior Boys placing third in the South Island! You can read more about the tournament here.
On Tuesday this week we had the privilege of hosting a Ki-o-Rahi tournament for our region which saw 14 teams from various schools on site playing against each other. Congratulations to our Wāhine on winning their competition!
We have welcomed a number of parents on site this week for transition meetings for 2023 year 9 students. It has been such a pleasure meeting a number of new families. We look forward to welcoming them all here in 2023.
And as one year level prepares for life at secondary school, we say farewell to our Year 13 students at the Graduation Dinner next week. This is a significant milestone in the educational journey of these young people and it is always a fun night filled with a wide range of emotions. I look forward to seeing many of you then.
Ngā mihi,
Daniel Wilson
