Daniel Wilson —

Sporting success, 'Carousel' musical production and our 2021 Charter.

Dear parents/caregivers

Last weekend I had the pleasure of watching our senior girls volleyball team win the Tasman Championships.  This was one of many highlights of an absolutely stunning week across a range of sports, including mountain biking success and Nayland College teams dominating every grade in the Tasman Volleyball Championships.  I wish all of our teams involved in summer tournament week over the coming days all the very best.  You can read more about our recent sporting success in this newsletter.

Students from both Nayland College and Broadgreen Intermediate are currently working hard in rehearsals towards staging 'Carousel' at the Theatre Royal in May.  'Carousel,' considered by many the best musical by Rogers and Hammerstein, has had a surge of popularity across the world following the 2018 Broadway revival.  In 1999, Time magazine, in its "Best of the Century" list, named 'Carousel' the best musical of the 20th century, writing that Rodgers and Hammerstein "set the standards for the 20th century musical, and this show features their most beautiful score and the most skillful and affecting example of their musical storytelling".  Start getting excited now for another outstanding Nayland College production!

It is a statutory requirement for school boards to prepare and maintain a charter, and submit this to the Ministry of Education each year. The charter must meet the requirements listed in the Section 61 Education Act 1989 – NZ Legislation website and the National Administration Guidelines. Our charter includes priorities identified by parents, whānau, and through our community consultation, and is written in plain language.  A copy of our 2021 school charter and annual plan can be found on our website.

Ngā mihi nui
