Girls’ rugby team tackles Waimea

Jo Cotton —

Nayland College Girls 1st XV took on Waimea College on the 10th May in their first game in two years. It was an exciting game with Nayland College putting up a real fight against a well-drilled Waimea side.

Though Nayland put up a good fight in the first half, Waimea still slipped by, scoring 4 tries and a conversion. They tightened it up in the second half, preventing Waimea from getting through and scoring their first try of the game and the season.

There were some outstanding players on the day, such as Psalm Hemopo, Cheyenne Wirihana, and Lexus Preston-Walker. The team wouldn’t have been able to play without the support of some Nelson Girls players who made up the numbers on the Nayland team.

The team is looking forward to an exciting season ahead. If you are keen to play please talk to Ms Cotton or Whaea Chanel.

Score: Waimea 22 v Nayland 5
