A visit from the Black Ferns

PE and health teacher Jo Cotton —

Nayland College was privileged to have four NZ women's rugby players come to our school for a Q and A session on the 19 September.

Kendra Cocksedge, Toka Natua, Chelsea Alley and Stacey Waaka (also in the NZ Womens Sevens Commonwealth team) were welcomed with a whakatau from the whānau class which included waiata, mihi and haka.

About 30 mostly sporting enthusiast students from a wide range of  codes, such as rugby, basketball, and netball, enjoyed asking the players some questions - some serious and some funny.

Kendra, Toka, Chelsea and Stacey shared some of their experiences, as well as their knowledge and a few laughs in response to the many personal questions asked by the enthusiastic audience.

Highlights included questions on dating, selfies, the group photo, and the free giveaways including rugby jersey that went to Layla Mahuika and Portia Ashby-Kiore.  The pair were able to answer questions from a memory quiz including things like the age the players were when they first started playing rugby and where their home town is.

An amazing opportunity had by all and we look forward to watching the players in the Farah Palmer cup and of course their upcoming Black Ferns games.
