An Interview with Wednesday and Pugsley

Nayland College —

Joelle Noar (aka Wednesday) and Stirling Scott (aka Pugsley), joined us at the radio station this week to promo Nayland College's upcoming musical production 'The Addams Family - School Edition.' We asked them how it's all going and what they're most looking forward to about playing their characters.

With less than six weeks to go, the countdown is on until the curtain raises on opening night.  When asked about how the show is coming along, Joelle said, "It's going really well, we've been rehearsing since the beginning of term one and have been rehearsing three times a week, so we've been putting in a lot of effort to make it really, really great."

The duo both auditioned last year for their roles, and have spent countless hours perfecting their lines and understanding their characters. "We did our auditions in December, and that was a really good experience, and we found out our cast list at the beginning of the holidays and got straight into rehearsals when the year started," said Joelle.

When asked about her character Wednesday, she added, "I'm very excited, it's a really different role, and it's kind of like a bucket list role so it's really great that I get this opportunity to play her."

Sterling added, "I auditioned for Pugsley but initially I didn't get it, but now I have... it's really cool, I love his energy and how I can portray him."

Stirling and Joelle have both been on the acting scene for a number of years. Joelle is involved in Nelson Youth Theatre (acting and choreographing), along with Nelson Repertory Theatre and other theatrical groups across New Zealand. Most recently Joelle joined a group of young New Zealanders and Australians who travelled to Sacremento for a Junior Theatre Festival. Stirling on the other hand, has performed in many pantomimes and school shows including 'Go West!' and 'Camelot.'

Audiences have a lot to look forward to when 'The Addams Family' production hits our stage. "It's a lot of fun, and it's really different to other musicals. It's quite upbeat and funny, and kind of creepy in a way...but it's going to look really effective with all of the costumes, set and (the) big stage," said Joelle.

When asked what he was most looking forward to, Stirling said, "The actual show, seeing it all come together with the audience cheering, and actually feeling how it will be onstage. Seeing it with all the lights, effects and stuff like that, (sounds) will be really cool."

We want to wish Stirling, Joelle, and the rest of the cast and crew all the best as they put the finishing touches on their performance. You can catch 'The Addams Family (School Edition)' from Thursday 16 May to Saturday 18 May, with three evening performances and one matinee on Saturday.
