Principal's Message

Daniel Wilson - Principal —

Dear parents

It has been amazing to finally have access to our new learning spaces in block 2 over the past week. We have only had good feedback about the classrooms, and it is exciting to see students using the flexible space in different ways. We look forward to the final touches of the exterior work being completed over the coming weeks.

It was with some relief that I have had notice from the PPTA that the teachers' rolling strike scheduled for next Tuesday is no longer going ahead. This is a positive sign that hopefully means that both parties are closer to an agreement. I do appreciate there has been some disruption to parents during this time that is outside the control of the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support thus far.

Teacher supply does continue to be an issue across the country. Nayland College will be losing six teachers at the end of term two. Whilst we have plans in place to ensure these classes are covered by specialist teachers, changing teachers part way through the year is never ideal. We will inform parents of classes affected by the change in due course and do our very best to minimise the impact on learning.

Finally, good luck to our Senior A and B Volleyball teams who are leaving early next week to participate in the Aloha Classic Volleyball tournament in Honolulu. I am sure it will be the trip of a lifetime! A huge thank you to all the parents, community organisations and businesses that have contributed to fundraising for this opportunity.

Ngā mihi nui
