Careers 2024

Andrea Hawkes —

The Careers year began with a NZDF visit and Trades Academy students commencing their courses for the year

The NZ Defence Force recruiter visited with their new interactive recruitment van and spoke to our Year 12 & 13 students in assembly about careers options in the Army, Navy and Air Force.  Many students from the wider school also visited the NZDF van at interval to discuss opportunities, view footage of what life is like in the armed forces, and to register their interest.

Trades Academy commenced on Friday 23 February, with a welcome ceremony at NMIT Te Pukenga in Nelson.  Nayland College Trades Academy students in Year 12 are attending 10 different courses this year (ranging from Beauty and Hairdressing to Automotive).  A new course for 2024 is Electrical, which has been very popular.  Students spend each Friday of the school term at NMIT, exploring an industry of their choice, as part of their school year.

University Information Sessions have been held by Victoria, Massey and Lincoln University to date - there are two more coming soon:

Canterbury University are visiting Wednesday 13 March 10.50am in Room 22

Otago University are visiting Friday 15 March at 10.50am in Room 22

Year 13 students are welcome to come along and listen to information on any university of interest.  Each university will return later in the year for course planning for students who have decided on the tertiary pathway of their choice.
