Friday Five

Nayland College Official —

This week sees the relaunch of our Friday Five where we give you the lowdown on one of our wonderful staff.

Earth and marine science teacher Graeme Bloomfield offers his thoughts in this week's Friday Five.

How long have you been teaching and how long you been at Nayland College?

35 years teaching and 34 of them at Nayland.

What are your passions and areas of expertise?

Science and marine, oceansey stuff so it's kind of cool being able to teach that.

Who has inspired you on your own learning journey?

Lots of people.  Raz Zacharriasen (especially when he went back into the classroom after 15 years as principal), Treena Blythe (who used to be here), Gaye (Bloomfield), my wife, is inspirational and lots of kids are too. They're what make me want to do the job.

What is your favorite thing about the school?

The teacher-student relationships. Teachers respect students and their part in the whole process rather than expecting students to just be compliant.

What are your ambitions for the future?

Seeing as I've been going for 34 years, I guess to be able to carry on for a bit longer.  I have no aspirations to be in leadership or management or anything like that, never have.  To be happy, enjoy life is my aspiration.
