A massive congratulations to Ruth Buckland on being selected as District Cadet of the Year and all the best for your upcoming national competition!

As well as being awarded the Nelson City Council Community Youth Volunteer Award at this week's Academic and Service Awards, Ruth has also been winning accolades outside of school. 

In May she represented the South Island in St John's national competitions. The team did really well and took out most of the trophies as you can see in the photo below! It was such an achievement to even be selected for this team.

Ruth has also been doing Leadership Development Training weekends with St John Youth and received her Corporal rank earlier this year. She has already done her training for Sergeant, and will finish off the work involved to get that rank through the next months. At only 15 years old this is a hugely significant achievement!

Further to this, Ruth was shortlisted and then subsequently chosen to be District Cadet of the Year (DCOTY) for 2022. She has also been shortlisted for the Regional Cadet of the Year (RCOTY) and has been selected for the 2022 National competitions again for the South Island team.
