Drug free school

Daniel Wilson —

Nayland College prides itself on being a safe and supportive school for students. This means that from time to time students who make poor choices have to face serious consequences for their actions.

In New Zealand it is illegal to sell or supply tobacco products to a minor under the age of 18. Further, minors (and adults) are not permitted to smoke in any public place. It is illegal to sell, give, buy for, lend or otherwise provide tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18 years.

Accordingly, as a school we have decided to treat tobacco infringements in the same way as alcohol.  This means that rather than having a warning for their first offence, any student smoking at school, whilst travelling to or from school, or smoking off-site when they are on a school trip or should otherwise be in class, will be immediately stood down.  Students were told of this decision at assemblies this week.

Likewise, any students that make the poor decision to bring, consume or distribute illicit drugs at school will be immediately suspended.

Thank you for your support to ensure Nayland College remains a safe environment for all students.
