Important message: Working from home

Daniel Wilson —

Year 10 students will move to online learning from Monday 20 June to Thursday 23 June. All students will be learning from home on Thursday 23 June.

Dear parents/caregivers

As communicated earlier this week,Covid-19 continues to cause problems for Nayland College as we strive to maintain a 'normal' working environment for our learners.  Unfortunately, we have had several more staff become ill over the past few days.  Some learning areas have been hit hard and we are now at the point where the learning experience has become compromised. I also need to be mindful of the impact on all staff as they cover Covid-19 absences whilst trying to manage their own health. Many staff (and students) are exhausted. We are hoping that an additional day at home next week will help us manage the school through until the end of term.

With this in mind, we have made the following decisions for next week (Monday 20 - Thursday 23 June):

  • Year 10 students:  All students will move to online learning for the whole week (note the Matariki Public Holiday is on Friday)
  • All year levels: All students will move to online learning for one day on Thursday 23 June

Although we encourage all students to shift to learning from home, if absolutely necessary, supervision of online learning will be available at school each day. These students should report to the library at 8:50am.

Work will be available on Teams for all students to access and manage themselves. Students should check with their teachers if they are unsure where to find their online work.  Gateway placements will continue as normal. Staff may request students attend to assist with catching up on assessments or portfolios.

We know that mask use is the best personal protection against Covid-19 and I encourage our school community to wear face coverings whenever indoors.

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

Ngā mihi
