Spring Festival provides a colourful end to the week

Duncan McKinlay —

Last Friday was Nayland's annual Spring Festival. House leaders and captains organised a range of events for students to take part in over lunchtime and last period. There was something to suit everyone: the ever popular colour run, dodge ball, board games, a quiz and a photography competition.

The afternoon was a chance for the junior students to let off some spring steam, the senior students a chance to have some fun before getting into the serious business of derived grade exams, and student house leaders a chance to organise and lead events for their peers.

The events were deliberately varied to accommodate a variety of student interests.

The colour run proved to be very popular again. With DJ Brodie Seelen and Maclaren "Macattack" Smith leading the charge, students ran through obstacles, sprinklers, water balloons and rainbow clouds of colour. This fun and active event was well organised by House Leaders and Captains Bo Kessler, Liam Hunter, Mackenzie Dyer, Juahna Hura, Natania Ngawhau, Charlotte Partridge and Astrid Sayer.

Oddball in the red and blue gyms saw up to 30 people in each team representing their houses in a heated competition. Pegasus was the winning house on the day, winning the round robin and then the final.

For those after a more sedate pass time, 'Old school games' including Monopoly, cards, Cranium, and The Game of Life were a real hit in the library, creating a really positive vibe for the students involved.

The photography challenge gave students the opportunity to capture the school from a range of themes provided.

An finally, for those wanting to show off their knowledge, the quiz was a really enjoyable occasion. Run ably by our House Leaders in the school hall, the teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were rewarded with spot prizes throughout.
