Boys Hockey team challenged at Top of the South Tournament
Our boys hockey team held their own against tough competition at the Top of the South Tournament on Wednesday 15 August and Thursday 16 August.
This tournament is a build up for the Nelson / Marlborough schools in their lead up to National Secondary School Tournaments.
Nayland had 15 students involved in the team. We opened with eventual winners, Waimea College losing a hard fought game 5-1. That afternoon we had to back up and play a fresh Marlborough Boys team losing 4-2 in an excellent game.
Thursday’s game against Nelson College saw Nelson needing to win by 4 goals to secure the overall tournament win. In a tough game we went into half time at 0-0. The second half saw wave after wave of frenzied attack by Nelson, meaning they eventually won 3-0.
Overall an excellent tournament with us building a strong team for the Coaches Cup in Greymouth.
