Changes to reporting and interviews

Hannah Cameron —

The lockdown interruption means we have made some changes to the way we report to whanau on students' progress this year.

Evidence shows that students who reflect on their strengths and challenges, who can set their own academic goals and who can take responsibility for their learning are more likely to achieve well. An important part of this process is for parents and caregivers to be involved in conversations about students' learning. The Covid lockdown meant we had to cancel the achievement conferences in Term 1 but there are a range of ways you can be involved and stay informed on your child's progress.

Next week all students will receive a 'traffic light' report. This gives a clear, visual indication of students' learning behaviours and of the likelihood of academic success in each subject. The reports will be emailed to parents and available on the parent portal. A paper copy will also be distributed to students during Wednesday tutor time. On Thursday 2 July subject teacher interviews provide an opportunity for discussion with individual teachers. If your child's subject report contains green 'traffic lights' in both columns this is an indication that they are on track for success and an interview is less necessary. If your child receives orange or red 'traffic lights' for a subject this is an indication that an appointment with that teacher could be useful. Students are encouraged to attend the interviews with caregivers to participate in the conversation.

Details on how to book appointments will be emailed to all parents early next week. If you do not have internet access appointments can be made by calling reception on (03) 547 9769.

At the end of Term 3 all students will also receive a full report with feedback and feed forward as we head towards senior external assessments.
