Nelson City Council notice for all school users of the Railway Reserve in Stoke.

Nelson City Council —

The Railway Reserve will be closed between Songer Street and Andrew Street, Stoke, for a period of approximately two weeks starting from Tuesday 30 May 2023.

What are we doing :

We are upgrading the pedestrian crossing where the Railway Reserve crosses Songer Street. This work will include installing a concrete raised table and concrete footpath extensions, painting a pedestrian crossing, and installing crossing point lights.

Why are we doing it :

This work aims to improve the safety of the Railway Reserve for both pedestrians and cyclists. We’ve had feedback that vulnerable users (e.g. children, elderly, and cyclists) feel unsafe crossing Songer Street, especially due to speeds along this section of road.

Duration :

Works are due to commence late May 2023 and are expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete (weather dependent).

Traffic Conditions :

There will be a single lane closure along Songer Street, in place with a detour via Black St, Andrew St, and Neale Ave. For a short duration of the works (approximately two weeks) there will be a closure of the Railway Reserve (between Songer St and Andrew Street) with a pedestrian/cyclist detour in place. Please see our contractor on site if you have any questions.
