Deputy Principal's Message

Trevor Olley - Deputy Principal —

Dear Parent and Caregivers

Term two, week seven has been another busy week on the college calendar.

On Tuesday we farewelled two senior girls volleyball teams who headed off to Honolulu, Hawaii for an international tournament.  We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank all those people who have, through their support, made this amazing sporting opportunity possible.

On the cultural scene our Rockquest entry 'Lazy Boys' gained second place overall and best vocals at the regional competition.  The band has been busy this week recording their submission for the national finals.

Our Chamber music groups, 'Cool Brass' won the KBB award and were highly commended, as were our Trombone Quartet.

The Nelson Centre of Musical Arts hosted the Big Sing competition on Thursday and Nayland had three choirs competing;  Sotto Voce (girls choir), AugMented (boys choir) and the NayCol Chorale (mixed choir).  All three choirs were highly commended and Sotto Voce won the NZ composition award and NayCol Chorale were runner up in the popular style.

Our Positive Behaviour for Learning SOAR value this term is 'opportunity' and as is evident above, many students at Nayland College are living that value!

Ngā mihi

Trevor Olley
