The nation-wide Showquest event replaced the familiar Stage Challenge, the rights of which Rockquest purchased.  It is in its first year running under the Showquest branding.

Last year Stage Challenge pulled out of Nelson last minute, so the schools came together with a solution, and Nayland College offered to host “Break Out” so that all the students who had already worked so hard could perform their “stage challenge” pieces.

This year, Nelson City Council initially took over “Break Out” so that the event could continue for the local schools and they booked the Trafalgar Centre.  Shortly therafter, Rockquest bought the rights and rebranded it to Showquest.

Nayland College had already made plans for Break Out so they simply carried on with their preparations, now aiming to perform in the newly branded Showquest.

To be a part of Showquest, the team of students had to create, produce and perform an original theatrical production consisting of student-designed and constructed costumes and props, presented in a choreographed, themed mini-spectacular.

The students rehearsed many out- of-school hours over a number of months, and were rapt to be rewarded at the event with 3rd and also the Production Award.
