Nayland College are delighted to introduce you to our newest Deputy Principal Ms Rowan Taigel who will be joining our Senior Leadership Team in January 2021.

Rowan currently runs her own PLD company called ‘What If PLD’ and is a registered MOE consultant. Prior to this she has worked as a Deputy Principal at Otago Girls High School, with a range of portfolios including school-wide vision development, pastoral management (restorative practices) and curriculum innovation. Rowan has also held English/Media Studies leadership roles at Cambridge High School, has worked as an E-learning consultant with Core Education and as an ESOL teacher in Korea. She has a strong interest in Music and Performing Arts. Rowan will be moving to Nelson with her partner Jay and 7 year old son, Dānte.

Rowan has completed a number of ‘Ed Talks’ – here is an example: https://vimeo.com/187757426

In her own words:

Kia ora, talofa lava, mālō e lelei, greetings!

I am very excited to be joining you as a Deputy Principal at the amazing Nayland College in 2021. My previous experience as a DP has been at Otago Girls’ High School from 2017-2020. My teaching subjects are English and Project Based Learning.

I have a wide variety of interests and hobbies; I play the piano and djembe (an African hand drum), am a published poet (you can often spot me in local cafes writing poetry and drinking good coffee), and more recently, have taken up podcasting (I host a podcast called WOA! Women on Air - where I interview women who are challenging the status quo in their fields). I will be moving to Nelson from Dunedin with my partner Jay, who is a lawyer, and our son Dānte, who is 7, and is very excited about this big adventure.

We are looking forward to joining the Nayland community and its inspiring people, and we’re also looking forward to more reliable bbq weather! Thank you for this opportunity, and please do pop in to say hello and introduce yourself.

Ngā mihi nui,

Rowan.
