Nayland Girls Rugby start season with a bang

Ange Baker —

Welcome to the 2020 Rugby season! Be sure to congratulate the Nayland College U18 Girls Rugby team as you see them around campus; they've started the season with a bang with two unprecedented wins against the top two teams in the region!

Nayland played a pre-season game against a strong Motueka High School team and came away with a solid win 31-10. This week in the official season opening game Nayland Girls faced the defending champions Waimea College. In a nail biter of a game, Nayland College brought home the win 19-15!

Girls Head Coach Murray Scott said, "Well, well, well how good are you girls. Just need to thank managers Kelly, Karen and Craig, your organisation and support for the girls is unbelievable. Thanks also to all parents and supporters for the way you make these girls tick... be proud of their achievement. I'll be completely honest with you all, I have won senior championships Tasman Trophies, but I have never ever felt so proud of a team as I do right now... Awesome. And last of all thanks to the Nayland Rugby Girls for their huge effort, I feel so privileged to be able to be a part of this. Thanks heaps team."

Come along and support the girls as the season continues with both home and away games.
