Year 10 students visit Natureland
On Monday 17 May, the Year 10 Animal Behaviour and Welfare class headed out on a sunny but cold morning to visit Natureland. They used scientific techniques to observe primate behaviour and assess the animals’ environment and will use information gathered to compare zoo and natural environments.
They learned about the breed for release program (Project Janzsoon) and made enrichment toys for the kaka that are part of the program. It was good fun watching the kaka attempting to find the food inside the puzzles the students had made for them!
One of the keepers demonstrated the difficulties of persuading a lemur to get on the scales using sultanas and all the other animals needed visiting and some needed feeding of course. At least one student came away with the idea of becoming a Natureland volunteer.
