Learning Support Centre 2022 highlights

Michelle Brown —

It has been a busy year in the Nayland College Learning Support Centre and the students have had enjoyed many new experiences through in and out classroom.

These have included trips to The Suter Gallery, Pics Factory, Sea Kayaking experience, Mr Olley’s farm, Trip to Glenduan, Founders Park with Mr Science as well as times spent at school with the Hospitality and Science Departments.

I have been so proud of the way many have taken risks to try new opportunities presented to them as well as the way they have conducted themselves out in the community.

The highlight of the year would be our trip with the Nayland College Outdoor Education Department where students explored sea kayaking, flax weaving, problem-solving skills to create a shelter with driftwood and then cleaning all the outdoor education equipment!

As their lead teacher I have enjoyed working with a wonderful group of students and learning assistants. It is a privilege to watch them grow on their learning journey and take on new challenges.

Whānau and staff were invited to share their success through an end-of-year celebration and afternoon tea which was such a positive experience and wonderful feedback received. I wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday break and look forward to working with new and current students in 2023! Meri Kirihemete!
