A message from our counselling team

Linda McDougall —

Dear Parents/Caregivers

This notice is for the whanau of every Year 9 student.

We are planning to run an eight week programme, one period each week, throughout the year for any Year 9 student who has experienced heightened anxiety and would be interested in learning skills to understand and manage this better.

If your child is keen to join a group to work on this issue please contact Linda McDougall (Head of Counselling) with details. Email linda.mcdougall@nayland.school.nz

We plan to run two small groups in term one as follows:

  • Monday Period 4 (2.00 pm-3.15pm)
  • Tuesday Period 4 (2.00 pm-3.15pm)

This will give students the ability to choose the option that best suits them.

These groups will run from a private meeting room. Nobody in their class will be informed of where they are and what they are meeting about. Once they are confirmed in a group, they just go straight to the meeting room when the end of lunch bell rings. They will be marked present on the attendance system.

Tania Wright, who is a Registered Nurse and experienced in working with anxiety and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) will be running the groups. She will follow a programme where young people learn and share in the group.

We are wanting to start this as soon as possible in order to get through all the material so please respond even if only to show initial interest. Once we have a list of interested students we will send them information on where and when to meet.

In your response please give your child’s full name and their first choice of the Monday or Tuesday group (if they have a preference) and we will endeavour to fulfil their request.

Kind regards,

Linda McDougall MNZAC
