Principal's Message

Daniel Wilson —

Dear parents/caregivers,

It has been my privilege to be involved in a number of extra-curricular activities over the past fortnight. The Tawa College Sports Exchange was once again a resounding success, with 120 students thoroughly enjoying their time in Wellington and the experience of playing high quality opposition. The results did not always go our way.  However, there continues to be huge improvement in our sports teams across the range of opportunities available. Also in Wellington were a number of students joining other local Nelson schools at a Philosophy conference, and a large group of foundation level English language International Students experiencing New Zealand culture, politics and heritage. On Wednesday night I joined a large audience at the Theatre Royal for our ‘Autumn Showcase’ concert. What an amazing night of entertainment this was with a huge and diverse array of talent on display. Well done to all the staff and students who make these ventures possible.

Many parents may not be aware that Nayland College has an online ‘parent portal’. You can access the portal through the right hand drop down on our school website. The portal shows a huge range of important information such as the following:

• School Calendar of Events
• Student Details, including the ability to submit changes
• Attendance and timetable information
• All Results, current year results and NCEA Summary
• Reports
• Financial Summary, with the ability to pay online
• Profile Notes
• Student / Caregiver conference notes and student goals

I have requested that our ICT team once again send out parent passwords in the next fortnight in case you have not received this for any reason. If you are still not able to access the portal, then please contact the school main reception and we will ensure you have some assistance.

Thank you once again to all parents and caregivers who attended our Achievement Conferences. These were once again a resounding success and I look forward to working in partnership with families and whanau to ensure our students meet their goals.  If you would like to offer any feedback regarding the conferences, please contact Kathy Sherwood on kathy.sherwood@nayland.school.nz.

Nga mihi nui
