Dear parents/caregivers

We hope that Term 2 and our distance learning programme has been a success for you so far. We know there will have been many challenges for you to deal with, but we have been getting some great feedback about the learning that is happening and thank you for all your support.

I have some general information relating to schools about preparing to move into Lockdown Level 3 from the Director General of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield. He tells us that we can move to partially reopening our schools for a very limited number of students from Wednesday 29 April.

The overriding principle for Alert Level 3 is to stay at home, other than for essential personal movement and going to work and school. For secondary schools, the key public health measures announced for Alert Level 3 are:

  • Year 11-13 students continue with distance learning
  • Wherever possible, year 9 and 10 students are to stay at home. Parents and caregivers can send children to school from Wednesday 29 April if both parents are working and no alternative arrangements within an extended bubble are possible
  • Currently it is difficult for Nayland College to cater for some students that require close supervision from a Learning Assistant (Teacher Aide). This is due to physical distancing requirements.  If you are not able to supervise your child please contact the school so that arrangements can be made.
  • For students that absolutely must come to school they will be working on supervised online study. Physical distancing will be in place; 2 metres outside and 1 metre inside
  • We will regularly disinfect surfaces
  • Students must regularly wash and dry hands, cough into elbow, and not touch their faces
  • Students must stay home if sick and report flu-like symptoms

For students that absolutely must come to school, the Director-General of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield, has recommended that we start with bubbles of no more than 10 students. Each bubble will be supervised by a senior leader and/or dean with other staff rostered on at various times. Students will be working on their own individual online learning. We will have staggered start and end times and students must keep to their own allocated areas and bathrooms during break times. The school day will be divided into three blocks of learning and rolls will be taken. All school services including the Kuaka Café and Breakfast Club will be closed.

Students must enrol in advance in order to attend Level 3 school so that we can set up registers and bubbles in advance. Students must meet the criteria set out above to enrol. Remember that our preference, unless it is just not possible, is that students stay at home.

To enrol for Level 3 school please follow this link. You do not need to complete this link if your child can stay at home.

Please also note that Monday 27 April is the ANZAC Day Holiday (observed) and Tuesday 28 April has been set aside for teachers to plan and collect resources. Online interactions with teachers will not be available on these two days.

We appreciate your help in supporting us to be ready for Alert Level 3.
