Daniel Wilson —

A busy start to Term 3!

Dear parents/caregivers

What a fantastic start to the term we’ve had with many student achievements to celebrate and a wonderful Cultural Week filled with lunchtime activities and a variety of delicious international food to try.

Our Open Evening was a great opportunity to meet prospective families and showcase our amazing students, facilities and learning areas. We do have out-of-zone places available at all year levels for 2023, so we encourage you to spread the word and ensure that friends and family get their enrolment applications in by Friday 26 August.

Subject Selection Evening is on next Wednesday from 5:30pm-7:30pm with an optional NCEA information session in the hall at 5:30pm. This week our tutor teachers have been focusing on supporting students in selecting their subjects and modules for 2023. All Year 11 students will also be personally interviewed by our Careers Advisors over the next couple of weeks to further support them in making their choices.

One of the highlights of this term has been to welcome 11 international students to Nayland College.  These students have joined us from Japan, Norway, Germany and Austria, with more to follow later in the term.  We also have three students with us for the following few weeks from one of our sister schools, Kousen High School in Japan.

Next Friday we will be holding our Year 8 Experience Day. Students from contributing schools will join us for a tour and mini ‘taster’ sessions across some of our learning areas. Just a reminder that school will close early for all Nayland College students at 1:00pm on that day.

Over the next week you will receive voting papers for the two parent representative positions on our school board. It was great to see 11 very strong candidates put their names forward. I encourage you to take the time to vote to ensure we have a strong and diverse board providing governance and support to the school.

Finally, good luck to our mixed choir ‘NayCol Chorale’ who head to The Big Sing Southern Cadenza Finale in Timaru next week!

Ngā mihi
