Budding swim coaches

Nayland College —

Year 13 physical education students have spent five weeks teaching Nayland Primary students how to swim.

It is well known that teenagers can be extremely effective teachers of young children as the children respond well to teen teachers.

The benefits for the younger students are that they build their confidence in the water and the College students gain leadership skills, self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

The year 13's completed an assignment on which strategies work best for young people when learning challenging skills like freestyle, and showed  themselves to be effective, innovative teachers.

Mr Geddes said,

"It  is always a pleasure to watch the 5 year old beaming as our College students built a positive rapport with them."
