Nayland College does a haka boogie
Hundreds of tamariki shared a kai and sang waiata at the 2017 Stoke Community of Learning haka boogie festival.
Kapa haka groups from eight Stoke/Tahunanui schools performed on Thursday night at Nayland College, coming together to recognise the hard work they have put in all year and to celebrate Maoritanga, Maori culture. Nayland College performed for the first time in the festival, as well as hosting the event.
Pupils from Nayland College, Stoke School, Broadgreen Intermediate, Nelson Christian Academy, Nayland Primary, Birchwood School, Tahunanui School, and Enner Glynn School took to the stage to sing songs (waiata), and perform haka.
"It was amazing, all the schools performed incredibly well," Jane Townsend, Nayland College Deputy Principal.
The Nayland College school hall was full to capacity, with parents flooding into the wings.
A huge thanks must go to Chanel Ngaruhe, Head of Te Reo, Haka Williams, Kapahaka Tutor and Nigel Lineham, Whanau Class Tutor, who all assisted in training the wonderful Nayland College kapahaka group.
