Students' creative solution for potential hazard

Library —

The Technology Department recruited some of our building and construction students to design and build a structure to mitigate a potential health and safety risk identified in the library.

The library stairwell was identified as a potential risk earlier this year and Nayland College Level 3 Building and Construction students designed and built the structure picture above (right).  The criteria was that it be useful, enable vision to see through the area, keep natural light and most importantly, prevent people from hitting their head on the steel stairwell frame.

Under guidance from Technology Teacher, Andrew Riordan, students Daniel Stocker, Jordan Hawkins and Son Nguyen together with Gareth Polglaze from the Level Two class produced the display structure featured above.

The result was a collaborative, real world solution that looks great!
