Daniel Wilson —

Getting ready for BYOD!

Dear parents/caregivers

This week saw the start of our prizegiving season with our Sports Prizegiving held on Wednesday evening. I have been fortunate to watch and support our students in a large range of different team sports this year, but I think a very special and integral part of the sporting programme at Nayland College is that we support and encourage students in a huge variety of individual and out-of-school sports;  thus holding true to our school values around ensuring learning programmes meet the needs of individuals. The range and diversity of individual excellence that was celebrated on Wednesday evening was certainly testament to this.

Participation in sport is also increasing from year to year.  This is assisted, I believe, by a growing number of students who are choosing Nayland College as their school of choice based on our sport support and guidance programmes and, in particular, our very successful Institute of Sport and associated Active Pedagogy programme. It has also been fantastic to see many more teachers, parents, friends of the school and students get involved in coaching and managing this year. Thank you to everyone who helps contribute to any aspect of sport.

As you know, Nayland College is working hard at providing learning experiences that use technology to help our students learn.

So, in 2020, the college would like all Year 9 and Year 11 students to bring their own device to school. We would also encourage Year 10, 12 and 13 students to bring along a device for learning, if they have one.

There are many things to think about when you ask students to bring along laptops. As a school, we have put significant thought into getting ready.  As well as learning how to teach with devices, we have been improving the wifi, buying devices and upgrading software. To help get students prepared, over the coming weeks we will be sharing articles about how devices are used across the school.
