Principal's Message, Friday 20 October

Daniel Wilson —

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

This is an exciting time of year as we celebrate achievements of students across the year in our various prizegivings and award evenings. We held our Arts and Cultural Awards earlier in the week, which was a fabulous celebration of our wide and diverse performance success. The full prizegiving results can be found here.

Also held recently, was the Cawthron Scitec Expo Awards with Nayland College students featuring strongly and Keshia Linyard winning the supreme prize for the second year in a row, as well as winning TWO supreme awards this year. What a fabulous result for a Year 10 student!

Exam preparation

We are now hitting the business end of the year for our senior students. As students complete their internal assessments and are starting to get ready for exams, I would like to remind our school population of the following expectations as we finish the year:

  • Senior students need to continue to attend their timetabled classes - they should not be wandering around the grounds or heading offsite.
  • If students have completed internal assessments for a particular subject, they will be supported with exam preparation in class.  If they do not have an external exam in the timetabled subject, they should be studying towards their other exams.
  • If students want to go to another space to work on practical subjects, they must get permission from the teachers concerned.
  • To ensure the safety of our campus, any student out of class at any time should have a class release note from their timetabled teacher.

Good luck to all our senior students as they finish off their remaining assessments and prepare for their external exams. You can find the NZQA exam timetable on our website: www.nayland.school.nz/news/exam-timetable/

Upcoming events

I am looking forward to our Sports Prizegiving next Tuesday, followed by our Academic and Service Awards for Year 11 on Friday and Year 12-13 the following Monday. Senior Prizegiving is at 1pm on Tuesday 31 October and parents are welcome to attend.

Donations Scheme

The board have recently made the decision to continue with the government school donation scheme in 2024.  This means that we are unable to charge fees for compulsory activities (camps and 'take home' components excluded).

Ngā mihi nui,
