Level 2 Whitewater Camp
After eight weeks training in the pool, learning to roll a kayak, practicing paddling skills on the Wairoa river, the Year 12 students went on their whitewater kayaking camp to the Buller River.
We were very lucky with the weather and students got to put their skills into practice on some Grade 2 whitewater. They had to apply the risk management strategies they planned and prepared to keep themselves and others safe on the river.
It was amazing to see their progression over two days and students were ferry gliding, rolling and even the first whoopies were seen on the mighty Buller river.
A very successful trip with all students passing the practical component of this white water kayaking assessment. Well done team!
