All students are expected back at school under Alert Level 1.

Dear parents/caregivers 

Today the Prime Minister announced that we will be moving to COVID Alert Level 1 at midnight tonight. Nayland College is delighted at this news, as we move through our 17th day of no new COVID-19 cases and the recovery of our last active case.

For us, there will be no major changes to what we are doing and our school continues to be safe to attend, including any staff and children who are considered more vulnerable to COVID. We have a good cleaning routine in place, people who are sick are staying at home and we continue to encourage good hygiene practices. This means that as of tomorrow we can welcome back everyone who has remained at home for other health related reasons during Alert Levels 2 and 3. We look forward to having you all back in class.

We are supporting contact tracing by having QR code posters at our entrances – so if you haven’t already downloaded the NZ COVID Tracer app the Ministry of Health’s NZ-COVID Tracer app page has information to help you do that.

What is changing is we can now look forward to inter-school and community sport, cultural events and performances and to welcoming all of our school community on site for these activities. In addition, field trips and other excursions can be more easily scheduled. 

Although Level 1 has significantly reduced restrictions, there are some key public health messages or "Golden Rules' that will still apply:

• If your child is sick, they should stay home (phone your family GP and get tested if they have cold or flu symptoms)
• Continue to wash and dry hands regularly
• Maintain sneezing and coughing etiquette
• Hand sanitiser will be available in classrooms (but not compulsory)
• Regular disinfecting of shared surfaces will continue
