PTA Funding Drive - Keep our nursing services!

Nayland College PTA —

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is on a mission to ensure Nayland College can keep school nursing services into the future.

DONATE HERE

Nayland College is facing an uncertain financial future due to the loss of International Student income and an earlier loss resulting from joining the government donation scheme.  The donation scheme has resulted in relieving pressure on parents as they do not feel obliged to donate $200 to the school.  However, while the government has made some additional funding provision for schools that opt into this scheme, the funding does not cover what Nayland College would normally receive in donations throughout a school year.

The PTA recognises that the economic future for some families is bleak and that many people in our community will be struggling.  However, for those that can afford to support this fundraising initiative, we would encourage you to make a donation to support this amazing cause.

In 2020 Nayland College has been trialling a School Nurse on site through a partnership with Whanake Youth.  It was hoped that the school could fund this through trust fund applications, however due to Covid-19 this has been unsuccessful. The school has also applied to the Ministry of Education to fund this initiative through the Covid Response Fund, which has also been unsuccessful.  As a decile 6 school, Nayland College does not qualify for free government support for Nursing or Social Workers.

The School Nurse provides a variety of functions that we at Nayland College believe are integral to the health and wellbeing of our students, particularly during these uncertain times. The school Health Centre manages a very large number of students each day, with over 400 nursing interventions made in the final 6 weeks of Term 2.  This resulted in a notable increase in referrals onto other services, including students own GPs, Child Adolescent Mental Health and the school counselling service.  Over a third of Nayland College students have a diagnosed medical condition, many of which also require ongoing support and supervision. The PTA does wonder how the school managed previously without this position!

The PTA is requesting your support by considering a donation of $50.00 towards assisting the school to keep this service. Although we are suggesting $50.00, any contribution will be welcomed.  A donation to the PTA is tax deductible and you will be provided with a receipt.

Please note there is absolutely no obligation to donate to this cause.  However, we believe that it is an integral service that we would like to see continue into the future.
