Daniel Wilson —

Dear parents

It is hard to believe that we are now at the end of term one.  I would like to congratulate all of our students and especially students new to Nayland College in 2018 for how they have settled into their learning for the year and are engaging in a wide range of sports, cultural and academic pursuits.

Property update
Like other schools in the area, Nayland College has also been struggling to get property projects underway.  This is for a number of reasons, including the shortage of design engineers and architects available to complete the work and the bureaucratic processes required by the various agencies.  Although we have been able to start some preliminary work on block 2, we are now hoping that the full construction work will begin at some stage in term 2.  Once this is completed other modifications can take place to the environment, including the building of a new student cafe.  Development of block 1 will follow in the medium term.  Work on our new multi-sport turf is already underway and should be available for use within the next month and fully completed by the end of August.

Canteen/cafe update
To prepare for the change to a new cafe facility in 2019, we have recently made the decision to work with the Libelle Group to ensure we are serving a good range of hot and cold food options to students.  A sample menu for the current canteen in included in this newsletter.  Please be aware that this is not yet finalised and is subject to change.  However, it does give a good indication of the range of fresh home-cooked products that will be offered.  Text ordering will also be available at a later date - more information will follow.

Achievement Conferences
Coming up early in term 2 are our Achievement Conferences.  Please see attached letter that went home this week via email.

I hope all students and staff have a safe and well deserved holiday.

Nga mihi nui
