Semi Finals for Young Table Tennis Team
The young team had a very close semi final loss to the tournament's eventual winners.
The Tasman Secondary Schools Table Tennis Championship was held on the 29th of June at Saxton Stadiums Table Tennis Facility. The Nayland Boys Table Tennis team were in for a tough day when the draw was released, showing there would be 32 male teams that they would need to beat if they wanted to be crowned the winners.
The young team that was made of Escher Kendrick (year 11), Matthew Edmonds (year 11) and Harry Palmer (year 10) got off to a very successful start winning all of their pool games, finishing top of the pool. After making the top 16 they continued their excellent form, winning their next two games which earned the team a semi final spot. The team went down with a close 3-2 loss to an older Nelson Boys team.
The team competed with great spirit and attitudes. All player played some really inspiring table tennis and Escher lead strongly from the front. Escher's thoughts on the day "they played very well as a team which showed when they played their doubles as that was their strength".
Thanks to Jeni Thornborough and Jon Escreet for organising such a wonderful competition!
