College gains Equilibrium

Nayland College Official —

Nayland College is thrilled to announce its partnership with Equilibrium, a local chiropractic and wellness practice. Equilibrium offers modern chiropractic care along with pilates, yoga and mindfulness courses and other health workshops.

The business was established in 2007 by former Nayland student Dr Hayden Thomas and his friend and business partner Dr John Dawson. They, along with their growing team, have been delivering expert spinal care and lifestyle advice to the Nelson community for over ten years from their central city premises. The purpose of the partnership between Equilibrium and Nayland College is to promote the importance of spinal health within our school community and ensure future generations develop and function and at their best.

Equilibrium will support the college in many ways. Its staff have already been on site delivering an informative presentation at an Institute of Sport (IoS) parents’ evening where they gave a preview of what they will offer in 2019. This includes sponsoring the IoS training shirts, running sessions on injury prevention and assessment, and supporting the programme through their contacts in elite sport.

“The students and their parents were very excited about the opportunities the relationship with Equilibrium would offer the Institute of Sport programme,” IoS teacher and deputy principal Jane Townsend said.

Principal Daniel Wilson also sees a lot of potential in the partnership. “Equilibrium saw an opportunity to work with a school to promote spinal health in particular. Through the Institute of Sport there’s a really good ‘in’ to be able to work with a group of students who are focused and who are at a high risk of injuries, to give them strategies to improve their overall health and look after themselves."

In addition to this, Equilibrium will be working alongside Nayland’s physical education staff to deliver the Straighten Up NZ programme run by the NZ Chiropractors’ Association. It aims to encourage people to maintain good posture and spinal movement and to be aware of what they can do to achieve this. A health check of Nayland staff by the Equilibrium team will also be on offer on the first staff-only day next year.

Mr Wilson is very pleased to have forged this positive partnership and says that the school is always looking for opportunities to partner with businesses that meet its values.

If there is anyone out there who has any ideas about how they might be able to support the school, please make contact with Daniel Wilson on 547 9769 or email: daniel.wilson@nayland.school.nz
