House Day 2021

Nayland College —

Sunshine, house colours everywhere, loads of great activities and plenty of 'super pumped' staff and students. Check out some of the photos from today.

Heads of Houses, supporting staff and a team of dedicated students have worked hard over the past few weeks in preparation of today's 'Big Day Out,' otherwise known as 'House Day.' Thankfully the rain held off and it was a beautiful day for students to be outside for the day, rotating through five different activities with their houses. The events included the 'Mega Course,' 'Water Fiesta,' Haka, Ngā Toi, and Field Art.

Costumes were a big part of the fun factor with staff setting the tone from the start, arriving in all kinds of extravagant and colourful costumes. Students also went all out with some incredibly creative costumes and plenty of colour. House points were awarded for best costumes as well as placings in the event.

In talking with Year 11 student Ysabella Abel prior to the day she said, "As house captains and leaders our main goal is to encourage people to have fun. That involves helping the day run smoothly by organising events and helping run them on the day... Making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate and hype up each of our houses to get into the house spirit."

Ysabella also spoke to a few students today to get their feedback:

"Everyone is super pumped."

"Loved the energy."

"We are all excited because everyone is dressed up."

"It’s so fun and the house leaders are awesome."

There was certainly plenty of house spirit displayed today, culminating in a huge mass haka to round off what was a fantastic house event.

A huge thank you to all the staff and students who made the day such a success and a special thank you to Kimberly Fitzgerald, Kumeroa Rahipere and Ysabella Abel for supplying photos!
