Nayland students hit track and field

PE and health teacher Jo Cotton —

Athletics Day was held on the 26th February at the Saxton Athletics Track.

There were over 250 competitors on the day ranging from Year 9 to Year 13.  They all competed in their respective age groups.

Events ranged from throwing such as shotput, discus and javelin, to jumping events such as long jump and high jump.  There were also track events such as 100m, 200m, and 400m.

Nelson put on a beautiful hot day and although there were no records broken, there were some outstanding individual performances.

Special mention must go to the pleasing number of juniors entered into events and the well behaved students overall. Well done to all of athletes.

Memorable moments:

Hadley Fleming - competed in loads of events

Zac Puklowski - tried so hard and pushed at the finish line suffering some skin loss, only to get up and win two more events in the afternoon

Ethan Williams - jumped 5.25m in the U14 long jump winning this event, 35cm shy of the record set in 2008 and 1m shy of the senior record of 6.05 set in 2018.
