Palmer Award for All Round Excellence goes to...

Nayland College —

The premier award at Nayland College is the Palmer Award and the Norm Cowles Trophy. This is presented for all-round achievement in academic, cultural, sporting and citizenship areas.

This year’s most deserving recipient is TACY EYLES

Tacy is intelligent, extremely motivated and has a strong work ethic. She has been an accelerate student studying a year ahead of her peer group in Mathematics and Science.

We congratulate Tacy on her academic achievements. She has achieved NCEA Level 1 and 2 with Excellence and to date has sufficient Level 3 credits for Level 3 with Excellence. She has subject endorsement of Excellence in Level 2 Biology, Design, Photography and Merit in Drama. This year Tacy has studied 6 subjects at Level 3 and is entering Scholarship in Chemistry and Photography. At last year’s prize giving she was awarded the Principal’s Award for Academic Excellence in Year 12.

Cultural contribution to Nayland through music and dance has been huge this year. Tacy has been leader of the Drama Company and co-leader of the Dance Company. She directed two performances in the Sheila Winn Shakespeare competition, had a lead role in the performance of The Diary of Anne Frank and choreographed for Vast Dance and Show Quest. Tacy has been a member of both the Nayland Girls’ Choir and Mixed Choir. This year these choirs competed at the Victoria Schools Music Festival in Melbourne, entered the Big Sing competition and the Voices in Harmony performance of Nelson/Marlborough regional Choirs. In addition, Tacy attended a David Childs music workshop, has been taking singing lessons and was recognised for her outstanding contribution to performing arts by being recently awarded her Cultural Blues.

Sporting involvement has included being member of the Nelson Suburban Whites Netball Club. Tacy belongs to the Nelson Marching Club which was placed 4th overall in New Zealand at the Ashton Marching Under 16 Competition this year. Tacy is also a trainee marching judge for 2018-19.

Service to Nayland has included being House Captain for Draco, a Cottage Contact, member of the Ball and Yearbook Committees and event co-ordinator for a House Day activity.

Tacy you are a fantastic role model. On behalf of Nayland College, thank you for your commitment and many hours of service. We have admired your talent, energy and amazing organisational skills. Your enthusiasm and cheerfulness will be missed. Best wishes as you commence study towards a Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemistry at Victoria University next year.
