Nayland College — Dec 7, 2017

Our student and family surveys/ interviews tell us that one of the most worrying things about starting a new school year can be wondering which students will be in your classes and who your teachers will be.

Therefore from 2018, student timetables will be available for viewing via http://nayland.school.nz/the-student-parent-portal/ the day before school starts for the year. For 2018, this date is January 29.

Years 9-10

The deans have been working carefully on these core class placements to build the best conditions for learning and we think we are nearly there. At year nine, the family interviews and the teachers from the contributing schools have given us great information. At Year 10, students and teachers have given information for the creation of these 'shuffled' core classes.

At both Year 9 and Year 10 there are ten core classes, each with an average of 27 students. However, changes can continue to be made right up until the start of school. By waiting until the day before school starts, we feel confident that the information we share with you will be up-to-date.

We respectfully request that students should come with a ‘give it a go’ mindset and that families appreciate that there is a lot of careful thinking and plenty of time that goes into these class placements.

House deans will review the core class placements once the year has begun and it is possible that a very small number of students may experience a change of class after a few weeks.

Years 11-13

All senior students will receive a letter during January containing their subject choices and advising of any clashes. Those with clashes, or with compelling reason for changing subjects, will need to see their house dean on 25 January. Appointments need to be made by going to www.schoolinterviews, code 594gx.

Information for the start of the year is on our website: http://nayland.school.nz/start-of-year/ and the school office will be open from January 15 onwards.
