Recap - NZ Sign Language Week
Last week, Nayland College celebrated NZ Sign Language Week with a documentary screening, tutor class Kahoot, and Waka challenge. We've captured the best from the week below!
As an official language of New Zealand it is so important for our students to participate in sign language week, not only to further their communication understanding but to also celebrate with the Deaf community of NZ.
We popped into the Year 10 NZ Sign Language class who were learning how to "sing with sign". They practiced the New Zealand National Anthem, 'Take it Easy' by Stan Walker and 'No Place Like Home' by Tiki Taane.
For the Waka Challenge students had a go at signing one or more of the phrases they had been practicing this week to earn points for their waka. Even Ms Banks had a go! Waka Points are as follows:
Waiora - 44 (1st)
Manukau - 21 (3rd)
Ngā Whatu - 37 (2nd)
Omaio - 14 (4th)
